Apprentice Carpenter Role and Responsibilities

Position Title: Apprentice Carpenter

Location: Sydney, NSW

Department: Construction

Reports To: Lead Carpenter / Project Manager / Owner

Role Overview: The Apprentice Carpenter at James and Co Residential Builders is responsible for assisting in various carpentry tasks under the supervision of the Lead Carpenter. This role involves learning the trade through hands-on experience, following instructions, and gradually taking on more complex tasks as skills develop. Additionally, the Apprentice Carpenter will play a key role in material handling, logistics, and site organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting with Carpentry Tasks:

    • Assist the Lead Carpenter and team with various carpentry tasks, including measuring, cutting, and assembling wood and other materials.

    • Perform basic carpentry duties such as framing, installing trim, and constructing structures.

  2. Learning and Development:

    • Participate actively in on-the-job training to learn carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.

    • Attend training sessions and courses as required to improve skills and knowledge.

  3. Site Preparation and Cleanup:

    • Help set up work areas by gathering tools, materials, and equipment.

    • Maintain a clean and organized worksite, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.

  4. Safety Compliance:

    • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

    • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.

  5. Tool and Equipment Handling:

    • Learn to use and maintain various carpentry tools and equipment.

    • Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition and report any issues to the Lead Carpenter.

  6. Material Management and Logistics:

    • Oversee the collection, handling, and organization of materials and supplies.

    • Assist in loading and unloading materials at job sites.

    • Manage the towing and disposal of waste trailers, ensuring efficient site cleanup and waste management.

    • Coordinate with suppliers and team members to ensure timely delivery and availability of materials.

  7. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Keep accurate records of work performed and materials used as directed by the Lead Carpenter.

    • Report progress and any issues to the Lead Carpenter or Project Manager.

  8. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with the Lead Carpenter and other team members to ensure efficient project completion.

    • Follow instructions and take feedback to improve performance and skills.
