Lead Carpenter Role and Responsibilities

Position Title: Lead Carpenter

Location: North Epping, NSW

Department: Construction

Reports To: Project Manager / Owner

Role Overview: The Lead Carpenter at James and Co Residential Builders is responsible for overseeing carpentry projects from start to finish, ensuring high-quality workmanship and efficient project completion. This role involves leading a team of carpenters and apprentices, coordinating with other trades, and ensuring compliance with all safety and building standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management:

    • Oversee and manage carpentry projects from planning through to completion.

    • Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

  2. Team Leadership:

    • Lead, mentor, and train a team of carpenters and apprentices.

    • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring efficient workflow.

  3. Quality Control:

    • Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure all work complies with building codes and regulations.

    • Conduct regular inspections of work to ensure quality and address any issues promptly.

  4. Client Interaction:

    • Communicate with clients to understand their needs and provide updates on project progress.

    • Ensure client satisfaction by addressing any concerns and making necessary adjustments.

  5. Safety Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

    • Conduct safety meetings and training sessions for team members.

  6. Material Management:

    • Order and manage materials and tools needed for projects.

    • Ensure materials are used efficiently and waste is minimized.

  7. Collaboration:

    • Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution.

    • Work closely with the Project Manager/Owner to align project goals and expectations.

  8. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of project progress, material usage, and team hours.

    • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Project Manager/Owner.

  9. Professional Development:

    • Continuously improve carpentry skills and industry knowledge through training and professional development opportunities.

    • Stay updated on the latest construction techniques, tools, and best practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a lead carpenter or similar role in the construction industry.

  • Strong understanding of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.
