General Manager Role and Responsibilities

Position Title: General Manager (GM)

Location: North Epping, Sydney, NSW

Department: Executive

Reports To: Board of Directors (if applicable) / Owner

Role Overview: The GM of James and Co Residential Builders is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of the company. This role involves setting the vision, establishing goals, managing resources, and ensuring the company’s growth and profitability. The GM will work closely with all departments to ensure cohesive and efficient operations, while fostering a culture that aligns with the company’s core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning and Vision:

    • Develop and communicate the company’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.

    • Create and implement long-term business plans to drive growth and profitability.

    • Monitor industry trends and market conditions to inform strategic decisions.

  2. Leadership and Management:

    • Provide leadership and direction to all departments, ensuring alignment with company goals.

    • Foster a positive and productive company culture that supports teamwork, innovation, and excellence.

    • Mentor and develop key management staff, providing guidance and support.

  3. Financial Oversight:

    • Oversee the company’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

    • Ensure efficient allocation of resources and manage company assets.

    • Monitor financial metrics and implement strategies to improve profitability and cash flow.

  4. Operations Management:

    • Ensure efficient and effective operations across all departments, including construction, sales, marketing, and administration.

    • Implement processes and systems to improve operational efficiency and quality.

    • Oversee major projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to high standards.

  5. Client and Stakeholder Relations:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.

    • Represent the company in negotiations, meetings, and industry events.

    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and address any client issues or concerns.

  6. Compliance and Risk Management:

    • Ensure the company complies with all legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.

    • Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect company assets and reputation.

    • Oversee health and safety policies and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

  7. Business Development:

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive growth.

    • Develop partnerships and strategic alliances to expand the company’s market presence.

    • Oversee marketing and sales strategies to attract and retain clients.

  8. Innovation and Improvement:

    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the company.

    • Encourage the adoption of new technologies and methods to enhance productivity and quality.

    • Stay updated on industry developments and best practices.

  9. Communication and Reporting:

    • Communicate company performance, goals, and initiatives to all employees.

    • Prepare and present reports to stakeholders, including financial performance, project updates, and strategic plans.

    • Ensure transparent and effective communication within the company.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet business demands.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
